haha, i rarely fill out meme's but i enjoyed reading this meme moonriddengirl posted today and i somehow managed to say i was gonna do it as well so... okay. here we go...
1)How old do you wish you were?
Eh, I kind of like being 28. I wouldn't mind if 28 lasted a few more years, though. So, uh... 28. :)
2) Where were you when 9/11 happened?
Top floor in the Farris-Newton Communications building on the campus of NCCU. I had just gotten out early from my first class (advanced grammar) and walked upstairs to the student newspaper office. I had just gone online to check out swedish newspaper aftonbladet online when i noticed it was taking forever to load the page and when it finally did there was just a headline saying a plane had crashed into one of the world trade center towers. I assumed they meant a tiny plane and just found it weird that i couldn't load any other newssources to read more. I walked off and found a professor watching the news in her office and joined her to learn what was going on.
I watched the towers fall on tv alongside other students, and then spent the day and evening and night in our newspaper office desperately trying to re-write the frontpage of our newspaper that was going off to print. I wrote this column that night. I haven't read it since, actually. It feels very over-the-top this many years afterwards, but it does bring me back to that day, when life _was_ over-the-top..
3) What do you do when vending machines steal your money?
Take it as a sign from life that I shouldn't be eating candy anyway and shrug it off as a lesson learned (until the next time I encounter a vending machine with yummie stuff).
4) Do you consider yourself kind?
...yes? I think so.
5) If you had to get a tattoo, where would it be?
Haha, if I "had" to.. Well, I'm currently in the process of figuring out what my third tattoo will be. I tend to "see" the tattoo I want to get, and so far I'm not seeing the full picture, so I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure I want to get my next tattoo on my left shoulder. (So far I think wings are involved, as well as a girl with very short hair looking a bit like a sad Delirium, but with some stuff from Maria McKee's song "Absolutely barking stars" somehow figuring into things)
6) If you could be fluent in any other language, what would it be?
Maybe french. French seems to come fairly easily to me whenever I study it, and I can mimic the pronounciations pretty well.
7) Do you know your neighbors?
I'm acquainted with the family next door, although now only the dad is left behind while his wife and two kids have moved back to Bangladesh. We chit-chat briefly if we pass each other outside, and they once invited my roomate and me to a traditional bangladesh dinner that was really nice. We haven't gotten any indication that neighbours exist in the apartment on the other side of us, or underneath our apartment. Considering how much time we've spent singing karaoke to singstar without getting any signs people were being annoyed, I'm not sure if those apartments are really inhabited or not, haha.
8) What do you consider a vacation?
Not having to work for a stretch of 3-5 days or more. Just having time off to be a bit to myself and have tv/movie marathons can be quite enough for me to feel I've had a bit of vacation.
9) Do you follow your horoscope?
No, not at all. I'm supposed to be Virgo, but I've never encountered anything for that profile that really fits me. However, whenever I've looked up my birthday in one of those birthday books with all the days in the year and descriptions of how people born on that day are, it's been eerily dead-on for me. I don't know if that counts?
10) Would you move for the person you loved?
I guess if there was strong enough reason? As long as I have certain things (my stuff, mainly) and feel I have somewhere to retreat, like a room, I can pretty much live anywhere I've discovered.
11) Are you touchy feely?
No, not unless we're dating. I grew up in a family that is very much not touchy feely. However, over the past few years a few new friends and people I have dated have changed things from me actually flinching away from any accidental contact with other people to being way more comfortable around people. I'm pretty grateful for that, even though I may still accidentally flinch at random moments. I'm still a pretty uncomfortable hugger (but so are most of my friends, so that's totally okay, haha). However, like I said, when I actually date people, I get extremely comfortable with them, haha.
12) Do you believe that opposites attract?
I don't know, maybe? Personally, I don't really work like that, but who am I to say what makes other people click? I think there needs to be at least some common ground or the attraction might wear off and you just get really annoyed..
13) Dream job?
HAHHA. I don't have one. I'd like to have a job where I felt I got to use my good skills: I'm very good at explaining things and quickly finding solutions to problems, I have a good eye for catching errors, I'm pretty good with some layout design... preferably, I guess I might like to help run a small publication or website or something where I could be in charge for a bunch of stuff while also getting to manage and help the rest of the team.
14) Favorite channel(s)?
On tv? I don't really watch much swedish television anymore so I'm not sure. I watch tv for specific shows and rarely just switch on a channel to let it run. I used to really like the American channel The WB because it had buffy and dawson's creek and felicity and other teen crap. Also, Comedy Central.... :)
15) Favorite place to go on weekends?
My room. It's just really comfortable and have any diversion I might feel like.
16) Showers or Baths?
Showers. I don't have the patience to run a bath, but I used to like them when I was kid.
17) Do you paint your nails?
Yes, about once a month, maybe. However, they start chipping immediately so my nails are almost always short (because they rip off easily) with chipped, blood red nail polish.
18) Do you trust people easily?
Yes, I try to, but I also judge people very quickly so it all depends on that first impression I get. I do tend to expect people to be good and kind and trustworthy until proven otherwise.
19) What are your phobias?
The biggest one is probably my phobia against cigarettes and smoking. It's surprisingly deepset. I have a hard time just writing the two words I just wrote because they gross me out, which makes it hard to elaborate because I don't want to have to write them several times again to elaborate on the phobia. If somebody is smoking in a movie and it becomes the focus of a shot, I have to immediately block it out with my hand or look away from the screen. I can't deal with seeing cigarette butts (ew, just typing that is so disgusting!) in any state, and certainly not used ashtrays (I often have to ask friends to please move them behind something so I can't see the tray and most of the time they are sweet enough to comply even if they don't quite believe I mean it).
I have a hard time touching a pack of cigarettes, even if it's brand new and unopened. I can't quite say the word cigarettes out loud. I'm extremely grossed out by people lighting up a cigarette outdoors because I know the smell will suddely hit my air as I pass them or whatever. (I have such a hard time with the way smokers always congregate right outside of entrances, and the way they litter because it's so hard for me to see and smell it and I'm actually always a bit terrified I'm going to pick up a cigarette butt underneath my shoe because it would really freak me out badly)
I'm also, by extension, grossed out by lighters and matches, and cannot use them. That means I never light candles, haha, and anybody I live with who smokes has to hide the items from my view so I don't accidentally stumble upon them too much. I also cannot randomly touch a lighter or a box of matches to effectively hide them myself but rather have to use an object to push the item out of sight.
So, naturally, my dad is a chainsmoker, my mom and brother smoke, and so does my roommate. Yippie. I can deal with it if I have to and am pretty good at restraining myself from having to be too impacted by it, but I honestly think many people around me would be surprised to know just how much of a phobia it is.
20) Do you want kids?
Yes. If I can have kids, I'd like to maybe try and have one in my early to mid-30s. Preferably a girl, but it's not really important. I'm kind of envisioning single parenthood, and always have, for some reason. I guess we'll see in another 5-6 years?
21) Do you keep a handwritten journal?
No, but I've tried a few times. Mostly I've had to write in a paperjournal when I've been going through a particularly rough time, but I haven't written since my grandma died a few years ago (I wrote a bit over the days I spent at her side in the hospital until she passed away). I've never read them, though, and have lost quite a few journals over the past few years so... doesn't make much sense to me.
22) Where would you rather be right now?
I don't know, Damien Rice's "The Blowing Daughter" on winamp is making me pretty happy just sitting here right now. Exciting, I know..
23) Who makes you feel warm and fuzzy?
My cat Sammy. Heheh. I'm sorry he lives so far away from me because he just has me talking gibberish by being too cute.
24) Heavy or light sleep?
I'm a bit inbetween. I wake a few times a night to go pee, I wake up right before the alarm sounds, and I feel I spend quite a lot of time dreaming really long dreams, but I think I sleep fairly heavy outside of that?
25) Are you paranoid?
Yes, quite often in the sense that I'm often convinced my friends are really fed up with me, haha. Of course, they never really actually seem to be, I just read in too much into prolonged silences and whatnot.
26) Are you impatient?
You know, I don't think so? I was going to say yes and was trying to think of examples but nothing came to mind. However, I'm very much Either/Or, and if I lose interest in something, I immediately desert whatever I was waiting for. Like if I'm hanging out with somebody and they take a call and start chatting, I will be patient to a certain point until I completely lose interest and leave the situation to do something on my own, but I don't get snippy about it. But hey, I've spent 3+ years at a call center, I'm extremely used to going over things over and over with people on the phone and not losing my patience, haha..
27) Who can you relate to?
I'm not quite sure, actually. I guess underdogs would be an easy answer? I'm extremely quick to find an underdog in any situation and connect with, regardless if we otherwise have anything in common?
28) How do you feel about interracial couples?
Heh, that question feels really outdated, but, uh, I don't feel anything in particular about couples, period, regardless who is involved with whoever else? As long as I don't have to witness much PDA, I don't in the least care who's dating who or why and whatnot?
29) Have you been burned by love?
Haha, that sounds very dramatic. No, I have not been burned by love. (I'm really fighting not to add something immature to this answer, haha)
30) What's your life motto?
Oh ghod, this is so my last job interview all over again! I don't have a life motto. I just really believe that whatever happens, life has a way to sort itself out again eventually so.. chill. That's not a motto, just a belief, I guess.
31) (question missing)
32) What were you doing at midnight last night?
I was online reading oh no they didn't gossip before going to bed.
33) (See 31)
34) Whose bed did you sleep in last night?
35) What color shirt are you wearing?
It's my red night t-shirt with roses printed along with the text "sweet dreams" on the chest. I got it for christmas from my mom. Of course, I don't actually wear it to bed, I only wear my pajama clothes before I undress to go to bed, haha.
36) Most recent movie you watched?
I can't recall watching any movie since I went and saw mission impossible 3 in the theater last friday. I've watched boatloads of television since then, though - I watched the season finale of Medium before doing this neverending meme.
37) Name three things you have on you at all times?
Undies + bra, black pants and the black tunic i wear under all my shirts. I guess that's 4 things. Oh well.
38) What color are your bed sheets?
39) How much cash do you have on you right now?
None? (I don't have any clothes with pockets for cash..) I have about $25 in my wallet, which is rare since I almost never carry cash anymore.
40) What is your favorite part of the chicken?
Whatever part is so white and easy to chew I can completely disconnect from the horror of knowing I'm eating a dead bird. On live chickens, I like how some chicken have awesome and cool tailfeathers?
41) What's your favorite town/city?
I guess it's a cliché, but the city girl in me loves New York City, or maybe mot of all the idea of New York City. However, I'm fond of many cities I've spent time in - Stockholm, Oslo, Durham/Chapel Hill. I've never really vacationed much outside of visiting friends, but discovering Visby with moonriddengirl and her family last year was really great, and I look forward to going there again. Indecisive answer, much? ;)
42) I can't wait till:
Seeing X-men 3, hopefully this weekend! Am also excited in waiting for the new pirates of the caribbean movie. Lame, I know. Oh, and I hope to get to see depeche mode again this summer. :D
43) (see 31)
44) What did you have for dinner last night?
Chicken tikka marsala at my favourite mall food court (complete with nan bread and lots of garlic yogurt dressing)
45) How tall are you barefoot?
5 ft 6" I believe (If that correctly translates to 1 m 68 cm, roughly)
46) Have you ever smoked heroin?
47) Do you own a gun?
No. The sad thing is, I had to think. Even though I know I've never bought a gun, I was all suddenly wondering if maybe I did have a gun, or at least a toy gun. But no. The answer is no, your honor. No guns. :)
48) What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
I take a long time to get in the mood to drink or eat anything in the morning, but I do like a glass of milk if I'm eating breakfast, otherwise I always go for the water.
49) What is your secret weapon to lure in the opposite sex?
Uh.... my charming ways? Hahaha. Me and my charms, hahahaha. No, seriously... no secret weapon as far as I know, I don't believe people need to be lured in? Haha.
50) Do you have A.D.D.?
51) What time did you wake up today?
6.34 (and 55 secs) a.m. this morning (a.k.a. 5 seconds before my cellphone alarm goes off)
52) Current worry?
The usual - that I'm on the verge of being unemployed (it's my favourite worry even when there's no reason at all to worry about it, haha), that I'm about to go broke for no reason, and that everybody I know secretly can't stand me. Hehe.
53) Current hate?
People who needlessly stress others. As in, you tell them you've accomplished something and they immediately bring up something new for you to stress about. My tolerance is very low for it because I am so easily stressed and a worry-wart. I don't need people carelessly causing me to stress more than necessary, and dislike the type of person who is so insensitive.
54) Favorite place to be?
In bed, snuggled up well.
55) Where would you like to travel?
Italy (hoping we can swing a week this summer but I know how bad I am at planning so probably won't..) (particularly some nice rural part with much poppy flowers or whatnot). I also want to visit RDU friends in north carolina as well as go to New York again. Would also like to see a bit more of America because I love the contrasts (I've travelled quite a bit on Greyhound buses and it's amazing how the landscape and people change as you reach a new stop). I'd also like to see London again, and Oslo. Also, would love to see bits of Australia sometime.
I mostly look forward to travelling places where I have friends, though, so I'm pretty bad at coming up with other places I'd wanna go.
56) Where do you think you'll be in 10 yrs?
Hahahaha. I'm not sure? I don't really think like that. I hope wherever I am I have a secure environment where I'm not too stressed for money or a job, and maybe I'll have a kid, or a cat, or something? I know, I dream big, right.. haha.
57) Last thing you ate?
Dinner 4 hrs ago: Some really dull chicken nuggets with my really yummie homemade guacamole and some sourcream dip.
58) What songs do you sing in the shower?
Oh, anything that strikes my fancy. A lot of Kelly Clarkson, lately. :)
59) Last thing that made you laugh?
Playing Singstar with my roommate last night - we discovered that when we played back our karaoke efforts, the game would let us distort the voices so suddenly we sounded like two chipmunks on speed singing foreigner's "i want to know what love is" ... we about fell off our already broken couch laughing.
60) Worst injury you've ever had?
I can't recall anything that bad. I've been pretty okay and have never broken or fractured anything, nor needed surgery I guess it's either when I slipped and fell and hit the back of my head pretty badly on cement stairs (but i really was okay except for some bad swelling, or the time I got bit by a german shephard and got three stiches on my bottom lip? I'm more prone to minor accidents that leave little scars, and I heal pretty quickly.
61) Does someone have a crush on you?
I don't think so?
62) What is your favorite candy?
Swedish milk chocolate, preferably with nuts. I like many types of candy, but when in doubt, a small piece of chocolate always works.
63) What song do you want played at your funeral?
Hahaha, well, when I was 15 I wrote a will that I had my friends sign where I asked that they play "Music of the night" from The Phantom of the Opera, "Nothing else matters" by Metallica and "November Rain" by Guns'n'Roses. Yes, it was 1992. Haha.
Right now, I'm not really sure. Something pretty? Most songs I like are in english, and I can't really see the point of having what I assume would be my swedish family members listening to some music they wouldn't quite grasp the meaning of. Perhaps John Hannah could swing by and read something really dramatic from WH Auden or something, haha. Actually, I'd like somebody to sing a swedish hymn I sang when I was in the church choir called Härlig är Jorden. I have no idea what the english equivalent would be, it's just a simple funeral hymn.
(oo, or maybe I would have them play Tori Amos' "Tear in your hand" which I still really somehow connect with)
okay. ta-da!! happy, moonriddengirl? Hehe. This took FOREVEEER. :)
