the seduction of ingmar bergman

as some may remember, marp is very into a band called sparks. they've pretty much been a favourite since the 70s. i'd never heard of them, but have now been to 7 concerts and last night's event, so i'm growing into a fan by proxy.

sparks mainly consist of the brothers mael: ron and russell. ron plays keyboards, russell sings, and together they make cross-genre music that's part musical, part art pop, part rock, very glam in other words, and the lyrics are highly amusing.

last night was the world premier of their comissioned musical called "the seduction of ingmar bergman." the musical was comissioned by swedish radio and the event went like this: a theater where sparks usually play when doing shows in stockholm was filled up with fans and the cast and then we together listened to the premier radio broadcast. so, basically, we listened to the radio in the dark. it was great, haha.

it was made even more fun by realizing the entire cast (including jonas malmsjö and elin klinga, young swedish actors who worked with ingmar bergman) and russell & ron were seated in the row in front of me and marp. we could sneak peeks and watch reactions from all of them while we all sat in the dark, listening. it was awesome.

and to top it off, we stayed behind post show to go to the bathroom and when we got out, the entire cast, including the sparks-brothers, came up the stairs for a post-event afterparty. they literaly had to pass us in the stairs, so marp (and a mutual friend who is also a great fan) managed to get their brand new cds signed by russell.

trust me, it's quite a coup (albeit a limited one since they have a small but incredibly devoted following). i think we're now looking at this becoming marp's most prized possession. i think the only thing that would top it would be if he would have ever gotten marc bolan to sign something in person.

so, yey! and the musical was a lot of fun, hehe. 'twas a good night. :)

p.s. am amused that russell signs by adding "sparks" to his signature. humble. :)

p.s2. am so in love with my new bright green nail polish. seriously. bright greeeen. might even be prettier than my neon pink.

p.s3. first week of work? BRUTAL! but monday, we get the keys to our summer home, yey! can't wait. so much fun crap to buy! unfortunately, i have been buying cute crap for years so i already have loads of things like strings of lights and whatnot, but still. loooads to buy. flea markets, here i come!

Have you ever heard them do "Eaten By the Monster of Love" in concert? That song sticks in my head for days.

My brother introduced me to Sparks in the 70s. I think "This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us" was my first. Can't really remember, tho. I was, I dunno, maybe 12? Good stuff. :)

The same Sparks that did the song 'Eaten By The Monster Of Love' on the Valley Girl movie soundtrack? Because if so, they rule.

I'm rocking the two color blue toenail polish - Dark and light on every other toe. The green looks cool!
